Penumbra is a piece that unfolds in two simultaneous realms, in an attempt to create a distinct linkage between the spatial and timbral facets of the musical continuum.
The acoustic space in which the two performers act represents a salient feature of this piece- the musical material is inextricably connected to the physical movement of the players, and the progression of the work is represented, translated, and reimagined both sonically and spatially.
The initial musical material of both instruments, which at first are seemingly detached, almost indifferent to one another, gradually converges into a collective statement.
This gradual accumulation concludes in a unification of space, sound, and narrative.

* Penumbra- a space of partial illumination (as in an eclipse) between the perfect shadow on all sides and the full light.
